This is Cliff. He lives in a beach city in Southern California. Often homeless, sometimes barely hanging on with a roof over his head. He plays sax and guitar. I've spoken to those who've know him for years. They say he used to be a great musician but he slipped into substance abuse and somewhere along the way, was overcome by it... I've seen him aggressive and agitated. On this day, we hung out for awhile. He played me songs on guitar and I taught him a B minor chord, returning the favor. I asked, and he let me take his picture. This is one of two photos that seem to capture the striking duplicity in him; toggling between joyous and disturbed.
