About the Shot

"Epic Division" - I took a drive down to Long Beach Island, NJ. I had heard about a manmade jetty that had to be seen. When I got to the parking lot of the beach, I had no idea that I would have to walk two miles by foot to get to the jetty. Thankfully, this image was taken during the summer so I had a bit of time before the sun set. The walk along the beach lined with small shells, sea kelp and unfortunately the occasional empty plastic soda bottles was worth it. The jetty was man made, serving as a huge water break for the inlet seen on the right and the thunderous ocean waves on the left. The image was taken as the sun was setting behind me. The soft iridescent colors of sky along with the ocean waves really made this image worth while. As they say, sometimes you have to go through hell getting to heaven. The image shows the duality of Mother Nature, one side powerful and the other calm and serene. Its scenes like this that really drive me as a photographer to keep looking for the next big sunrise or sunset. There a whole big world of beauty out there, you just have to willing to find it. Enjoy the View.
