About the Shot
I remember this day very well. Sam had asked me to come and kick it with him and take some pics of his new invention the “Wheel of Deconstruction”. I had known Sam for a while and was always stoked to spend one on one time with this unbelievable soul. He had an energy and a keenness about him that was invigorating for me. The wheel came to fruition through Sam’s hard work and quirky look on what could be accomplished and how. I remember shooting the wheel and being really in awe of this accomplishment. We decided to take a few photos of the gap leading up to the wheel and I remember getting the shot but Sam wasn’t quite done sessioning. He wanted to clean the whole section…and it wasn’t a few more tries before he did. He was proud of this undertaking (the building and the riding of it), to an extent, but it was more about just doing it, and the possibilities of what could be, that spurred him on. He was gifted beyond measure in all regards, gentle and humble, and that’s how I’ll remember you bro…. You were and are a sage
