About the Shot

CHiapas Mexico, home to the ancient Mayan ruins of Palenque, Yaxchilán, Bonampak, and Chinkultic. It is also home to one of the largest indigenous populations in the country with twelve federally recognized ethnicities. This unhurried wise man represents simplicity at its finest. I had a long conversation with him prior to this photo being taken felt blessed to have been graced by his spirit. He was waiting to be payed for some goods he had brought down from his farm, a days walk from the town we were in. It was winter there and I asked him if his feet got cold and he said that they were more weathered than the weather itself. His gentle spirit was enduring but the jaguar stone in the photo was indicative of his amazing strength and grace.
